January 2022

There was a joke going around that this year will just be "2020-too" with reference to the foreboding many feel after 2020 and all of the Covid chaos. There's been plenty of chaos so far, but hopefully 2022 will only get better!

We started the year by driving home from Colorado

School resumed on the 4th. Schools closed again on the 13th because the Omicron variant of Covid had spread so quickly and so many students/teachers were gone. Church went back to 1 hour for a few weeks as well.

We spent MLK weekend down in Texas with the Ferrells. Due to Covid stuff, we didn't go anywhere except church, and just enjoyed hanging out.

We sold our red van, Ruby, to a nice Scottish gentleman. Due to the cost of vehicles right now, we sold it for more than we bought it for over 5 years ago!

Judy started rehearsals for the play "Hello Dolly". The college ECU was putting it on and asked for community members to join. Rehearsals were almost every week night, and what I though was just singing ended up including dancing and more! Dale was amazing and took over most of the evening duties/rituals while I was gone.

Kimball maintains his refusal to let his hair be cut and loves it long and shaggy. He told me "my hair is like a polar bear's! It keeps in heat." He claims he'll let me cut it in the spring. When his leg hair was getting pulled, he exclaimed "a man's leg hair is his own!" I took and printed his passport photo so we could get that application sent in.

Cameron was called as the Deacon's quorum president in young men's. The boys both had a little too much fun on their Boy Scout zoom meeting when Scouts was virtual one week.

Lily is now a valiant in primary. She started riding the bus to and from school, but one morning didn't get off the bus at her school. When the driver got back to the "bus barn" and walked the bus, he found her there and must have mentioned he had a "leftover" to his supervisor because Lily was slightly traumatized and told us she didn't want to be a leftover on the bus anymore. She still rides the bus home almost every day though. She started selling Girl Scout cookies for the first time!

Becca enjoyed telling me "you have hair up your nose". She calls Kimball "bubble", and told me that even though we can't cancel her turning 5 to keep her younger longer, we can cancel turning 8 because she doesn't want to get baptized (she's scared of going under water). She loves reading and is progressing with sounding out simple words.

"It's a peanut butter cup!"
