We went on a river rafting trip with the Berry, Marshall and King families. We booked with the Riverside Resort in Tahlequah, OK. It had been raining most of the week before but we decided to go anyhow. The first part of the float was sunny and beautiful but as we reached the last leg, a thunderstorm came in and it was slightly terrifying. Kimball and Cameron were on other rafts, and Dale and I had the girls on a raft with Errol King. The girls were crying in my lap (and Becca fell asleep eventually) while Dale and Errol paddled furiously.
Thankfully we got to the cabins safely but we were soaked. We cooked a dinner on the little grill outside our cabin and all changed. I got majorly sunburned. We floated for 4+ hours which was a bit long for the girls, but everyone loved getting out and swimming along the way with some rope swings and little cliffs to jump off of. We didn't get much time to socialize at the resort because of the rain and we were exhausted, but it was a good experience for all of us.
The Ferrells came up to visit at the end of July and stayed the first couple of days in August. While they were here, our Chik-fil-A celebrated their anniversary and had a scavenger hunt. Our family missed winning a prize by 1 car :(. We also went to a drive in movie at the high school (Night at the Museum), played at a local park and did crafts and other silly things.
Most of the local schools delayed their starting days by a week or more in preparation for all the changes that Corona Virus required, but we just got to enjoy summer break even longer because school didn't start until September for us. It was weird to be in limbo while everyone else started! We had lots of family time like building Lincoln log forts to represent Book of Mormon stories for Family Home Evening.Interest rates were hitting record lows so we decided to refinance our house and cut out rate in half! We had to get it appraised and do all the fun paper work but it's worth it.
The county fair was cancelled (thanks Covid) so we entered pictures of stuff we would have submitted and Kimball won the talent show! He got a $25 gift card to a Mexican restaurant. Suddenly we discovered that Kimball is taller than me and he even has armpit hair now! That was one of his best days ever. Somehow he got sick for several days with a fever and fatigue. We had him tested for Covid but it came back negative, though until we got the results we all went into quarantine including Dale who had to work from home. While he was sick, Kimball told us "I'm having mood swings". He loves to research tanks
Cameron also entered some art work and a piano piece. He worked very hard to earn money for some Lego sets. He's by far our pickiest eater and told me "I just hope my taste buds get me to liking everything when I grow up so I don't have to deal with not liking things."
Becca had her first dentist appointment. Despite my efforts to reassure her and get her excited, she clammed right up when we got there and we were lucky to get her to let the dentist even count her teeth let alone touch them. But now she knows a bit more what to expect. She loves eating the most random things like cheese eon Nutella toast and applesauce with chips. She names all of her toys with ILY at the end like dogily, horseily, catily. She can finally reach many of the light switches and bathroom sinks.
I made a table to fit over Shadow's kennel so we could keep our school supplies there. It was my first wood-working adventure on such a big scale and I definitely learned a lot. I also finally got the kids' pictures updated so I could hang them on the wall. I watched Brett a few times...I had watched him in 2019 but then they took a break and he got to come again.
Dale kept everything running at work and at home...and sometimes working at home. He went on bike rides with Errol King occasionally.
And we all tried to just stay sane in this new world of Corona Virus and the effects it has on all of us...
