A day at the zoo

The zoo in "the city" is free on Mondays in January and February, so I thought I'd take my boys up last Monday since Kimball didn't have school. We stopped at a Sears on the way to get the tires in our car taken care of, then we drove the rest of the 1+ hour to get there.

When we got there, the overflow parking lot was packed and it was quite apparent that the zoo was going to be crowded. Even with the large crowds, no one got lost and we had a good time. We even found some exhibits that we haven't seen before on previous trips to the zoo, which just goes to show how ginormous and confusing the zoo is.

This is the only statue either of the boys wanted to climb on, and we miraculously got there at a time big kids weren't swarming it!

While waiting to see the bird exhibit we got to watch the spider monkeys and their awesome tails!
On the way home, we stopped at the Firefighter's Museum Playground where they have a kids-style firehouse and old firetrucks to climb in.
We really did have a great time, but I was exhausted by the time we left and the 1+ hour drive home left me plum worn out. It will probably be a while before I make that venture again...at least not without Dale!
